Start a technology start up – Intro

It is likely a dream for a lot of people to be the next unicorn startup. You don’t even have to be in tech to have the dream, it just starts with an idea right? Not quite. Start ups are hard. Business is hard. HR and recruitment is hard. Legal, marketing and finance is hard. We haven’t even covered the product design or development and yet we’re already struggling to know which way to focus first.

This is going to be a series of blogs aimed at my own personal process of taking an idea and turning it into something that you can sell. I will cover a broad range of roles, including those above so remember that this blog is focussed on beginning a start-up and not necessarily hands on examples of code.

That said, I will be covering these main areas from a Technology perspective. I’ve listed them as a starting point for me, but I will make a ‘Start a Start Up’ Page on the site as well for a full list.

  • Agile
    • Minimum Viable Product
    • Story Mapping
    • Backlog Management
    • Scrum and Kanban
  • Architecture
    • Fast, Scalable, Secure
    • Microsoft and AWS
    • Planning to fail
    • Domain Driven Design
    • Event Driven Architecture
  • Development
    • Server vs Serverless
    • Making a Restful API
    • Handling Versioning
    • Mobile Apps
    • Testing
  • DevOps
    • CI/CD
    • Automation
    • Monitoring
    • Support
    • Infrastructure as Code

So if you are interesting a starting out with a Tech Start up but not really sure how to start- follow along! I will try to release weekly, although there will be a mix of Technical and Business related posts as I cover different areas of the process.
